VP of Strategic Technologies Global Practice

Stephen is the head of the Strategic Technologies Practice where he is responsible for managing all of the research coverage of technology markets. This encompasses a number of services including; SpecTRAX, Advanced Defense Systems (ADS), RF Component Strategies (RFCS), GaAs & Compound Semiconductor Technologies (GaAs) and Handset Component Technologies (HCT).

Stephen Entwistle has enjoyed a career spanning both engineering and marketing roles with a deep understanding of the inter-relationships between the technology, product development and marketing issues in the electronics industry.

He has been with BIS Strategic Decisions and then Strategy Analytics since 1983. During this time he has carried out numerous large-scale projects focused on advanced components for clients such as Microsoft, Sun, Nokia, ARM, Bose, Vodafone, Infineon and Freescale, amongst many others. He is often invited to speak at major conferences and to author feature articles in industry journals.

Education

Stephen graduated from Bradford and Bath Universities in 1989 and 1991 with a B.Eng Honours degree and a Master of Engineering Management (M.Eng) degree. He has subsequently completed a Diploma in Marketing at Luton University to gain membership of both the IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) and CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing).

Experience

Stephen Entwistle's experience prior to joining Strategy Analytics includes:

  • sponsorship through university by GEC-Marconi Avionics with broad industrial training across the functions of a world class military systems supplier.
  • development of RF ATE and microprocessor systems.
  • analysing the capabilities of military companies and seeking out opportunities and business partners in commercial markets to supplement the industry wide fall-off in defence spending.

Asif Anwar has a career thsat spans engineering and marketing roles in the metals, minerals and electronics industries. At Strategy Analytics, he has been providing insights and analysis in the advanced electronics markets for over 18 years, covering radar, electronic warfare, military communications as well as commercial market applications. He is the Executive Director of Strategy Analytics' Strategic Component Applications (SCA) group which delivers expertise, consulting and competitive insight on enabling semiconductor technologies. The SCA group encompasses Advanced Defense Systems (ADS), RF and Wireless Components (RFWC) and the Advanced Semiconductor Applications (ASA) services.

Asif's current focus at Strategy Analytics is on supporting the defense industry across all the different segments, from platform and systems integrators, sub-system suppliers, software vendors and component and semiconductor technology providers. He regularly attends and speaks at external conferences and webinars on topics including global defense spending trends, military radar, satellite communications and other areas germane to the military sector, as well as being an acknowledged expert and thought leader in the compound semiconductor industry.

He graduated from the University of Teesside, UK in 1993 with a B.Eng Honours degree in Chemical Engineering, before doing Ph.D research on fatty acids.

Asif is a member of the IEEE (including AESS, MTTS and ComSoc) as well as the IChemE.

Eric Higham, Director

As Director for the Advanced Semiconductor Applications Service, Eric Higham provides analysis of the dynamics and trends for processes, technologies and components in wired and wireless communications markets. His areas of research include 3G and emerging 4G wireless networks, fiber optic networks, CATV, millimeter wave communications, broadband, military radar, EW and communications applications.

Prior to joining Strategy Analytics, Eric worked in a variety of engineering, business development and marketing roles for Raytheon, Micro-Dynamics and M/A-COM. In these positions, he participated in the emergence and growth of the commercial wireless industry. Eric was most recently President and founder of Spectrum Business Development, where he developed market and product research for a variety of market applications.

After over three decades in the semiconductor field, he brings a deep understanding of the technical and market trends in the GaAs and compound semiconductor sector.

Eric holds an MSEE degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and a BSEE degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Stuart Robinson, Director

Stuart Robinson, Director, Handset Component Technologies (HCT) Program within the Strategic Technologies Practice, provides an understanding of the dynamics and trends within the market for components used in portable electronic equipment.

Mr Robinson joined Strategy Analytics in 2004, bringing a wealth of experience in market research, analysis and consulting spanning over fifteen years. He has spoken at numerous industry events worldwide.

Prior to joining Strategy Analytics, Stuart was Associate Director of CAP Ventures' Printer and Multifunction Device Service, and he spent five years building his own web design and consulting company. For the seven years prior to that he worked for the Strategy Analytics forerunner, BIS Macintosh, as a consultant and service director within the company's components division, plus four years in a product-marketing role within Texas Instruments' semiconductor division.

Mr. Robinson holds a BSc Honours degree in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University.

Christopher Taylor, Director

Christopher Taylor, Director, RF & Wireless Components, is responsible for managing radio frequency (RFWC) and wireless component activities within the Strategic Technologies Practice. His experience includes 15 years in the semiconductor industry working for companies making digital, mixed-signal, and RF components for handsets, LANs and WLANs, computers, and other electronic systems.

Mr. Taylor's current research focuses on the market for front-end modules and emerging applications of RF CMOS.

Prior to this position, Mr. Taylor worked as a Product Marketing Manager at M/A-COM, where he defined, developed, and launched new integrated circuits for wireless systems. Previously, Mr. Taylor was marketing manager for Varian Semiconductor Equipment, and managed the sales and marketing activities of Applied Optronics, a semiconductor laser start-up. At BIS Mackintosh, a precursor to Strategy Analytics, he led the U.S. activities of the Gallium Arsenide and Compound Semiconductors IC Program.

Mr. Taylor holds an MS degree in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, an MS in Physics from Ohio State University, and a BS in Physics from Pennsylvania State University.

Sravan Kundojjala, Associate Director

Sravan Kumar Kundojjala, Associate Director, joined Strategy Analytics’ Handset Component Technology (HCT) Service in 2008. Mr. Kundojjala is a well-regarded mobile processor industry analyst and his primary research focus is analysing the cellular baseband and applications processor market dynamics. Mr. Kundojjala authored multiple reports on mobile processor vendor strategies and mobile processor market share dynamics. His thought leadership is widely quoted in the media including Bloomberg, EE Times, Fierce Wireless, RCR Wireless and others.

Prior to joining Strategy Analytics Mr. Kundojjala worked as a Mixed-Signal Applications Engineer for Alliance Semiconductors India Ltd. and was responsible for analysing, designing and writing application notes for the company’s power management products. He also had an internship in Corporate Market Research and Competitive Intelligence at ST Microelectronics, France.

Mr. Kundojjala holds a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India and an MS in Microelectronics Technology and Manufacturing Management from Ecole Nationale Supérieure Des Mines SAINT-ETIENNE, France.
